Louisville Business First: Three questions with new CEO of MHS
Expansion is continuing at Material Handling Systems Inc.’s headquarters in Mount Washington.
The company, which makes parcel sortation systems and equipment, is adding 180,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 60,000 square feet of office space to its headquarters on Griffin Way. The company just moved into this facility a few years ago, and it’s already growing.
The company has about 1 million square feet of space in the U.S. and employs 1,400 worldwide, including 500 locally.
We reported last year that the company was working on a $21 million expansion, according to documents filed with the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority. The expansion is expected to create 300 jobs during the next 10 years, paying an average hourly wage of $25, including benefits.
CEO Scott McReynolds showed me around the manufacturing space during a visit on Tuesday. He’s new to the CEO post, succeeding co-founder and CEO Toney Mouser in April, but he’s been with the company since the beginning. We talked about the growth that’s fueling these expansions and how the company’s leadership structure has changed as a result. A few points from our conversation are below.
